Ainsley Bennett (born 22 July 1954 in St. Catharines, Jamaica) is a British former Olympic and World Championship sprinter from Birmingham, England.

early life
Bennett grew up in Birmingham, West Midlands, England, and attended Naseby Modern Secondary School in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham (the school was renamed Park View in the 1980s, and it still does). The school also coincidentally produced Paul O’Callaghan, an international cross-country runner from the Republic of Ireland, who competed in six World Cross-Country Championships, qualified for the Olympics (although injuries prevented him from participating), and wore Irish Green competed in road, track and cross country from 1982 to 2003.
Athletics career
Ainsley competed at the Birchfield Harriers Athletics Club in Perry Barr, North Birmingham, and represented Great Britain at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada, where he reached the semifinals of the men’s 200m sprint and was a The men’s 4 x 400m relay team unfortunately failed to make further progress in the first preliminaries.
However, Bennett was better in the 4 x 400m relay at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki, where he and teammates Gary Cook, Todd Bennett and Philip Brown finished in 3:03.53 Bronze, behind the Soviet Union and West Germany.

current activity
After completing his track and field career, Ainsley founded a successful event management and corporate hospitality business, Ainsley Bennett Societyusing his network to specialize in buying tickets to hard-to-find and VIP events, and although he no longer competes, Ainsley is a trustee for Birchfield Harriers.
He and his partner Mary Sharp now live in Hampton-in-Arden with their two children: Callum and Ruaidhri Bennett.
