About Aide Iskandar: Singapore football player (1975-)
Assistant to Iskandar bin Sahak (born 28 May 1975) is a former professional footballer who is currently the head coach of the S.League and the development side of the Singapore U-23 team, the Courts Young Lions. A member of the Singapore national team, he won the ASEAN Football Championship in 1998, 2004 and 2007, and captained the team for the last two terms.
football career
He played in the S-League for 10 years before opting to join the Johor FA in the Malaysian league in November 2005. He then went on loan to Tampines Rovers for the 2006 season in Singapore. He moved to Geylang United in 2007.
He entered the latest FIFA Club of the Century roster on 17 May 2007.
On 26 August 2007, Aide insulted referee Sukhbir Singh, reportedly asking: “How much did you bet on this match?” After his team, Geylang United were in the final five minutes of the league conceded two goals in a controversial loss to home United. On September 4, Aide was suspended for five matches and fined S$2,500. On appeal, FAS reduced his suspension to two games and increased his fine to S$4,000 in November.
As a result of that incident, he was knocked out of the national team for the match against the UAE and missed the World Cup qualifier against Palestine. However, he was recalled from the team before he could appeal the ban.
International career
Aide made his international debut on 21 February 1995 against New Zealand. On 3 June 2006, he scored his first international goal against traditional rivals Malaysia. He was inducted into the FIFA Club of the Century in June 2007.
On 9 November 2007, just hours before the start of the 2010 World Cup qualifier against Tajikistan, he made a sensational exit from international football. Indra Sahdan Daud takes over as the new national team captain.
coaching career
In April 2008, it was announced that Aide would be the technical director of the proposed AC Milan Primary School, which would begin operations in Singapore by the end of 2008. Aide is a fan of the Italian Serie A club.
During the 2009 S.League season, Aide joined Sengkang Punggol as a player and assistant coach in a position similar to that of Mirko Grabovac last season. Coach Jorg Steinebrunner was sacked by the club and Aide was appointed caretaker coach.
Aide was named head coach of the Courts Young Lions in January 2013. The Young Lions only scored their first league win in August, finishing with a wooden spoon in his maiden season. Aide took over the Singapore National Under-23 football team in October 2013 following the resignation of V. Sundramoorthy. He led them to third place at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games.
Singapore failed to advance to the semi-finals following a 1-0 loss to Indonesia at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games. Ed resigned as coach of the national under-23 football team.
He was appointed as the technical director of Geylang International in 2016.
personal life
Aide married Ezreen Taib Zohri on May 7, 2000. They have three children – sons Andre (born 2001) and Adiel (born 2004), and daughter Estee (born 2007).
