Aaron Spiro (born Aronitel December 6, 1983) is a German-Canadian professional ice hockey player who last played for HC Davos in the National League.
career
Born in Waterloo, Ontario (then) to a German mother and a Canadian father, Nittel (then) played junior hockey for the Windsor Spitfire of the Ontario Hockey League. His performance caught the attention of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, who selected him with the 85th overall pick in the third round of the 2002 NHL Draft. In the final junior season of the 2002-03 season, he was traded to OHL’s Oshawa Generals.
After spending the better part of three professional seasons with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League, he began playing in Europe and adopted his father’s name, “Spiro.” Since 2006 he has played for Nationalliga A in Switzerland, Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany and Kontinental Hockey League in Russia.
As a member of the Nuremberg Ice Tigers, he was named Hockey News’ Player of the Month in September 2007. He was also selected to the 2008 DEL All-Star Game.
In his third season at EHC Biel, Spiro was selected to represent Canada in the Spengler Cup.
