About Ahmet Şık: Turkish journalist (1970-)
Ahmed Hick ([ahmet ʃɯk]; born 1970, Adana) is a Turkish investigative journalist, author of several books, trade unionist and member of the Turkish Parliament. his book, Imam’s Army, investigating Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen’s controversial Gülen campaign, which led to his one-year detention in 2011-2012, the book was confiscated and banned. He is still being prosecuted in the OdaTV case at Ergenekon; his career has been taken over by PEN UK, a writers’ association fighting for free speech. In 2016, prosecutors in the case demanded the acquittal of Şık. On December 29, 2016, Şık was again detained on charges of “propagating a terrorist organization”, referring to 11 tweets he posted. The next day, a judge in Istanbul ordered Ahmed’s arrest. According to lawyers, Şık was denied legal advice and was held in solitary confinement without water for three days.
Profession
Şık studied journalism at Istanbul University. Between 1991 and 2007, Şık worked for several leading Turkish newspapers, including kumhuriya, radical, Evrenceland Yeni Yur. He was also in Nokta Magazine and Reuters news agency as photojournalist. When he was fired for union activity, he turned to academic work. In 1998, he was hospitalized after “a group of pro-police thugs, outraged by the murder convictions of several police officers in a torture case, attacked the victims’ lawyers, prosecutors and journalists. In 2009, he fled the country for a year, terrified of The officials who were the targets of his reporting.”
Ahmet Şık is a member of the Turkish Journalists Union (Turkish: Türkiye Gazeteciler SendikasıTGS) and Contemporary Journalists Association (Turkish: Çağdaş Gazeteciler Derneği, CGD). In daily, weekly and monthly magazines, he has published articles on human rights, journalism and professional ethics.
Political career
Şık was elected as the representative of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) in Istanbul’s second constituency in the 2018 parliamentary elections.

Imam’s Army (Turkey: Immaman Ordusu) is a book by Şık who studies the life and work of Faturra Gulen and his Gulen movement. Şık was detained in March 2011 before the book was published, and the draft of the book was confiscated and banned by the government.
