On September 18, 1983, Bela M Trivedi was registered as a defence lawyer. On 10 July 1995, she was appointed a judge of the Civil and Conference Court of Ahmedabad. From 2003 to 2006, she was the legal secretary of the Gujarat government. She is also a member of the General Council of Gujarat State Law University. Other positions she has held include Registrar (Vigilance) of the Gujarat High Court, Resident Legal Adviser and Special Judge of the Gujarat Government – Serial Bombings.

On 17 February 2011, she was appointed as a Supplementary Judge of the Gujarat High Court. The post was nominated by former CJI SH Kapadia and appointed by former Indian President Pratibha Patil. She held this position until 26 June 2011, after which she was appointed as an additional judge of the Rajasthan High Court. On February 9, 2016, she was reappointed as a judge of the Gujarat High Court. She was nominated by former CJI TS Thakur and appointed by Pranab Mukherjee. She is serving as a judge in the Rajasthan High Court until 30 August 2021.

With three women presiding over the oath of office, Justices BV Nagarathna, Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Hima Kohli, the Supreme Court was given four incumbent female justices, beating the previous record of three incumbent female justices.

- Surat Parsi Panchayat Committee v. Union of India. (2021): On July 25, 2021, the Chamber, led by Justice Ms. Bela M Trivedi, rejected a request submitted by the Surat Parsi Panchayat Committee to dispose of the body of Parsees who died as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, according to Zoroastrianism Tradition rather than cremate them. During the Dokhmenashini ceremony, Parsees placed the corpse on a high place, allowing it to rot in the sun and be eaten by carrion birds. The court found that the agreement to dispose of the bodies by cremation did not violate the basic religious rights of the Parsi community and directed it to follow the novel coronavirus guidelines.

- When Bela M Trivedi was appointed a judge at the Civil and Sessions Court of Ahmedabad, her father was also a judge at the same court. Hence, the 1996 edition of the Limka Book of Records of India highlighted the incident with the cover story “Father and daughter judges in the same court”.
