Caroline Kennedy is a diplomat, author and lawyer from the United States. She served as the U.S. ambassador to Japan from 2013 to 2017. Caroline is the only surviving child of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, and Jacqueline Kennedy, the former First Lady of the United States. Likewise, she was the niece of the late Senators Ted Kennedy and the late Robert Kennedy. In 1963, when she was young, her father was assassinated. Caroline Bouvier Kennedy was born on November 27, 1957 in Manhattan, New York, to then-Massachusetts Senator John Fitzgerald Kennedy and his wife Jacqui Birth of Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy. Caroline and her parents spent the first three years of her life in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Caroline’s family moved to the White House when she was three years old, when her father was named President of the United States.
Caroline was about six years old when her father, John F. Kennedy, was killed on November 22, 1963. Jacqueline Kennedy and her children Caroline and John Jr. moved to Manhattan’s East Side the following year, where Caroline attended school.
