‘They tried to get rid of him’…Ian Wright claims £22m Tottenham man doesn’t get enough credit

BBC commentator Ian Wright thinks Tottenham’s Son Heung-min deserves more praise.
On the Wright House podcast, Wright was full of praise for his son’s opening goal in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Arsenal.
He also looked back on his career with South Korea’s Spurs as he joined for £22m (guardian) in 2015.
He said Spurs had tried to sell Son Heung-min at one point, but he had established himself as a “great” winger.

“Look at the son,” Wright said. “Son, for me, he doesn’t get the credit. Look what the son does on the left.
“Son had to run with the ball, and 30 yards out he rolled it in. A magnificent goal. He had to do some incredible work. He was standing alone.
“Look what he’s done since he came here. In 2016, they tried to get rid of him. He’s for sale.
“What a big mistake that would have been, a sliding door moment. Excellent consistency. What more could you want? What else could he do?”

It feels shocking now that Tottenham could have considered getting rid of Son Heung-min.
He is Mourinho’s ideal winger. He became a star under Mauricio Pochettino but took it to the next level under the Portuguese.
He’s as good as anyone in the division right now, as good as a winger, and that’s one of the main reasons Tottenham are at the top of the league.
Mourinho will be happy he wasn’t sold until he arrives.
